Introductory Astrophysics Workshop

I have written and developed an introductory astrophysics workshop with graduate student Kate Wagner. The course is aimed at introducing high-school level students to introductory concepts in astrophysics theory, observation, and instrumentation using easily accessible code notebooks. The workshop's GitHub page includes all the relevant materials for both students and educators with easy setup instructions using Google Colab. Please feel free to reach out to us if you are interested in implementing this course in your classroom; students only need a Google account to partake!

American Physical Society Programs

I serve as an APS Career Mentoring Fellow (one of few to be chosen during graduate studies) and participate in the APS National Mentoring Community and APS Physicist To-Go programs. As a Career Mentoring Fellow, I introduce students to career options available to them as physics majors which are different from the traditional academic path. As a National Mentoring Community mentor, I engage one-on-one with APS students globally to share my experiences and guide them as they navigate their undergraduate/graduate studies. As an APS Physicist To-Go, I have virtually visited a high-school astronomy class in California to talk about non-syllabus topics such as exoplanets, space probes, my research, and career paths for undergraduate students with physics degrees.

Letters to a Pre-Scientist Pen Pal

Over the next year, I will be pen pals with an 8th-grade student in Chicago through the Letters to a Pre-Scientist program! We will exchange four handwritten letters each, through which I will convey my job as an astrophysicist using pictures, drawings, and vivid descriptions of my daily work life. The goal of the program is to broaden younger students' views of STEM professionals and inspire them to visualize themselves in STEM jobs.
